This recipe is super versatile, use in burgers, salads, wraps or even as a side with dipping sauce.š Seitan is similar to chicken, but has a much lower carbon footprint, so you can take climate action with every delicious bite! š¤©
You can find the key ingredient, vital wheat gluten at your local bulk foods store. Keep an eye out because it might be called gluten flour. š±
***Simply Sensation Seitan***
Ingredients:
š±3/4 cups vital wheat gluten (also called gluten flour)
š±1/4 cup all purpose flourĀ
š±1 tsp vegetable broth
š±3/4 tsp onion powderĀ
š±3/4 tsp garlic powderĀ
š±1/4 tsp salt
š±2/3 cup waterĀ
š±1 tbsp oilĀ
Method:
š± Fill a pot with an inch or two of water and bring it to a light boil with a steamer basket.
š± In a medium bowl, combine wheat gluten, flour, vegetable broth powder, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and water to form a dough.
š± Lightly grease the steamer basket.
š± Tear off bite-sized pieces of the seitan dough and arrange them in a single layer in the steamer basket.
š± Cover and steam for 10 minutes.
š± Heat oil in a pan and fry the steamed seitan pieces
š±Add your preferred sauce or spices. For this burger Lilli used BBQ sauce and Ā½ tsp liquid smoke to coat the seitan.
š±Serve on burgers, wraps, salads or as a side.
